Certifying Legal Documents
Creating certified documents
We can certify certain documents for you at a minimal charge per document. This includes Wills and LPA’s. Usually, there is no need to use a solicitor or notary to do this for you.
However, for any other documents we CANNOT certify them, ie Passport Applications, Immigration forms.
For these types of documents we recommend Kundert & Co. based in Rugby, telephone 01788 222850. Their charges are very reasonable.
As an executor or attorney you may need certified copies when the time comes, and you’ll have to send off a copy of the Will or LPA to whoever requests it. NEVER send the original. The death certificate is usually certified by the registrar at the time of registering the death.
For LPA’s we strongly recommend registering them online when you’ve had them “validated”. This is an easy process and allows a “code” to be sent to anyone requesting sight of an LPA. Details of the process can be found here https://www.gov.uk/use-lasting-power-of-attorney
Post death, ideally, you’ll need five copies of the death certificate, three copies of the Will, Sometimes you may not need them, but it’s just worth bearing in mind when you start the administration of the Estate or looking after the Donor of an LPA that you may be asked for them.
